With the technical help of Asian Development Bank, the government of Pakistan
has devised a Gender Reform Action Plan to be implemented in the institutions,
as well as on a social basis. In
the Constitution of Pakistan, Article nos: 25,27,34,35 and 37 show the
importance of women rights and their status of equality with men.
In order to safeguard these rights, Government of Pakistan has devised GRAP,
which in turn is doing the following:
NCSW (National Commission for Status of Women) has been organized.
Preparation of a national policy for the prosperity of women.
Women workers have been given a right to be equally paid as men according to the
ILO convention.
33% participation of
women is allocated in representative government setup, and 17% in representation
in the Senate and the National and Provincial Assemblies.
A four year duration has been given for the implementation of GRAP and the Asian
Development Bank has promised help in other projects only if GRAP is recognized
by the cabinet and its implementation is satisfactory.
A REVIEW OF GRAP AND ITS IMPROVEMENT
What is the basis of GRAP?
Women are maltreated and suffer from discrimination in every aspect of life in
comparison to men.
Men and society at large are not giving women their due share.
In order to obtain their rights, women have to be equally active in every walk
of life with men.
To achieve this goal a quota for women should be established and an open merit
system should be entertained.
All male domination rules should be changed and there should be liberty for
women for their own actions
